Jet Setter...

image from here

Oh the life of a jet setter... haha I wish! But I am actually flying across the pond today, but this time to Cambridge instead of home (Miami) to help in the celebrations of little k graduating from college!!! It's crazy to think that she is old enough to be officially done with college, I swear we just dropped her off there! Not to mention what this means about me... so much for feeling like I "just graduated" hu? Time to embrace this young adult stage I suppose... but maybe after this week of reminiscing and partying like a collage student... you know, for little k and all!

***Today I am thankful that I get to celebrate little k's graduation with her and my parents... just call me a Lugo for the next week!!!***

Grand Union...

When hubs and I went out venturing to find the Tweed Run, we came across the Grand Union and popped in to have a bite. Not your average British pub, this one was adorned with such an eclectic mix of vintage treasures alongside those more traditional pub furnishing. It was quite dark (in a good way) and this helped all of the gaudy accents glimmer even more! The overall atmosphere was that of a special one with just the right chilled out vibe, nothing too pretentious or too dive bar. The service was very friendly (which is hard to come by in London!) both at the bar and at the table. When it came to the food, again we were expecting more along the lines of traditional pub food... your average burger, fish and chips, or pies... instead we were pleasantly surprised with their assortment of starters, specialty burgers,  and oven made pizzas. We ordered onion rings (ok, nothing special) and fries (the skinny ones, which are the best kind!) to share, and burgers. Hubs had the fully loaded, which included mature cheddar, streaky bacon, onion rings, and bbq sauce. Now hubs is quite the foodie so not just any old burger will impress him... but this one did! I ordered the avocado and bacon, which included guacamole and streaky bacon. Man was it delicious!!! Both of our burgers came out cooked to our satisfaction, quickly, and did I mention they were huge! Overall it was a lovely experience and I am so glad we didn't write this place off based on it's pub like exterior (don't judge a book...) Looking on their website, I found there are a few locations (we went to the Keddington one) and that they stay open late on weekends offering specialty cocktails and live djs. I would definitely recommend the Grand Union and can't wait to go back for an after hours experience!

Another special thing about the Grand Union, because it was across the street from the Imperial War Museum and the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, it quickly became the unofficial pub for the tweed participants too! Somehow, all the men and women styled in their best tweeds just seamlessly fit in with the decor, making it an even more magical place to have a bite and a pint!

price: ££ average, what you would expect for a burger and pint
food:*** specialty burgers were delicious!
drinks: ** average assortment of lagers & ciders, though they do claim to do specialty cocktails
service: **** they were friendly and helpful
vibe: ***** eclectic and laid back

***Today I am thankful for all the treasures London has to offer... can't wait to explore more and share with you guys!!!***

Tweed Run 2012

One of the great things about the blog world is that I have been able to discover new and exciting things through it. I first heard about the Tweed Run from this post and instantly fell in love!!! After drooling over each and every detail... from the ranges of tweed, to the beautifully crafted mustaches, the array of bicycles, and vintage inspired hair and makeup... I knew I wanted to get involved! I quickly searched for location and... New York! My heart quickly sank as I realized I had lived in the city that hosts the Tweed Run for three years and had never even known it even existed! To say I was majorly disappointed is an understatement. But then, earlier in the year I had heard mention of said Tweed Run again... but here... in London! I couldn't believe I was getting a second chance as I googled and got every detail possible (they keep it very vague on the site).

And so two weekends ago (May 6, 2012), I grabbed hubs, my camera, and a corduroy skirt (I have no tweed! Must fix pronto!!!) and was finally able to embrace the magnificent event known as the Tweed Run . Guess what... it was even better than I could have imagined!!! Hubs and I have decided to enter the lottery for next year and will start buying tweed just in case. Oh this is also the perfect excuse to get this bicycle Ive been eyeing... yes I know, this means I will have to get over my fear of riding in the city... gulp!

Just a couple of things I learned:
The Tweed Run happens only once a year in London and once a year In New York...
It was founded by one man's love for tweed...
It is a lottery entry so keep those fingers crossed...
It is in fact not a run but rather a ride...
The route is kept very hush hush and even the riders don't know it (someone obviously leads)...
They stop at the Imperial War Museum at 1pm for a tea break...
It is just fantastically one of the most amazing things to spectate amazing...
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE wears tweed!!!

***Today I am thankful for bicycles from all eras... so many beauties to choose from!!!***

Living Alone...

Things That Seem Normal When You Live AloneUCBcomedy.com
Watch more comedy videos from the twisted minds of the UCB Theatre at UCBcomedy.com

Have you guys seen this video?!? It is fantastically funny, charming, and... well, kind of true! I just burst out laughing when I first saw it... and then again the second time... and the 20th time. I won't tell you specifically which ones, but I am guilty as they come when it comes to some of those scenarios... you know, before hubs. Are there any weird things you did (or do) when living alone? I have to admit, some habits die hard, and well... some may have carried on with me into married life! For better or worse right?!?

***Today I am thankful for that time in my life that I lived alone... I learned more about myself then, than with any other roommate***

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful moms out there!!! I'm not one yet, but hubs and I hope to have some little Beales of our own someday... I am so curious to see what they will look like! Tanned and brown haired like me or pale and blue eyed like hubs??? British or American accents??? Will they call me mom, mum, or mami like I do with my own??? A couple of things are certain though, I will try my hardest to teach about their Spanish roots (the Spanish language included), I will love them unconditionally, I will make sure they dress cool (hey I'm a childrens wear designer so you know), and I will try to be the mother to them that my mami has been and continues being to me. With her as my role model and biggest inspiration, I hope I will be able to do as a good of a job! I mean, I think I turned out pretty good right?!? So thank-you mami for everything you have done... for being my mother and for also being my best friend!!!

***Today I am thankful for my mami... tiny and sassy and one hell of a woman!!!***

Pinks & Greys...

necklace: beacon's closet, cardigan: madewell, top: gap, belt: zara, skirt: zara, ring: century21 (discount store), tights: target, socks: kmart, shoes: aldo (gift)

Two of my all time favorite colors are pink and grey... which is funny (well for me anyways) for two reasons: 1. I hated pink growing up and 2. Most people don't consider grey as a favorite color candidate! And when you pair the two together... well it's absolute perfection as far as I'm concerned! Any shade of pink and any shade of grey, it doesn't matter... they magically just go together... try it! For this outfit I added touches of grey in different shades, textures, and quantities for a pulled together look. You can try this little trick of mine with any color really. I especially love this skirt of mine... it's corduroy, has a high-waist, and has those cool folds at the pockets, what's not to love?!? You may even find me twirling in circles whenever I'm wearing it... and that's just a bonus! Oh and in case you didn't know, socks + tights is not only cool, but necessary to survive these chilly London spring days!

***Today I am thankful for pinks and greys... a most perfect color combo if I ever I seen one***
